Ocean Futures Toolkit
Towards a collective understanding of our oceans with data and design.
The blue economy is growing rapidly.
In 2023, trade in ocean goods and services hit record highs of $899 billion and $1.3 trillion, respectively, highlighting the growing momentum of marine activities for coastal and island nations.
As the blue economy expands, it is more important than ever to utilize it responsibly, to support the needs of coastal communities, and protect natural ecosystems for the future of people and the planet.
The ocean economy accounts for 11% of global CO₂ emissions.
We are speaking with scientists, entrepreneurs, leaders, policy experts, educators, and creatives to discover problems and insights that can help design a circular, data-driven ocean economy in industries across fishing, energy, trade, robotics, education and beyond.
What if the oceans weren’t about bounds, and about a vital, interconnected living system?
This resource can be useful to discover human and nature-centered perspectives that prioritize health and equity in our planet’s oceans. It shares data, technologies, organizations, precedents and news that help frame the trajectories ahead.
